D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education): The D.A.R.E. program teaches children how to be safe and healthy, make good decisions, and avoid peer pressure. Officer Stan Penrod is assigned to the D.A.R.E. program. It is taught in 4 elementary schools and in the Jr. High School. Syracuse anticipates bringing the D.A.R.E. program to those schools as well. We encourage parents to visit the D.A.R.E. web site at www.dare.com
SRO (School Resource Officer): The SRO's main responsibility is to assist the school in providing a safe learning environment for students and teachers. They keep the school safe from internal and external sources. The SRO enforces the law within the school and acts as an additional source for students to come to for help and advice. The SRO also teaches D.A.R.E. and LRE (Law Related Education) at their school. Syracuse currently has one SRO at Syracuse Jr. High and one at Syracuse High School.
